Balance of Power has always lived at the table — dice in hand, tiles underfoot, Heroes clashing across a hex-tile battlefield. Soon, it’ll live on your screen too. We’ve been quietly building an online version of the game, and after a lot of late nights and internal playtesting, it’s finally something we can talk about.
Balance of Power: Elements — Coming Soon from Wise Platypus
A turn-based strategy game of elemental conquest.
Six Heroes. Six Elements. One board to control.
Balance of Power: Elements pits up to six players — human or AI — against each other on a hex-tile battlefield, each commanding a Hero bound to one of six elements: Fire, Ice, Metal, Stone, Earth, and Wood. Every Hero carries their element’s own strengths and weaknesses onto the field, and a unique Special Ability that can turn the tide of a match.
Core features:
- Six distinct Heroes — Cinderoth (Fire), Niivorr (Ice), Valfer (Metal), Thorgar (Stone), Durgan Grul (Earth), and Ursan Talon (Wood) — each with their own bonus/penalty terrain and signature Special: boosted Attack, boosted Speed, a wall-ignoring charge, a resource trade, or the ability to reroll fate itself.
- Territory conquest — move across the board, battle NPC encounters, claim fields, and build Wall Rings to defend what’s yours.
- Player vs. Player combat — full head-to-head battles when Heroes collide, complete with field modifiers, Attack bonuses, and real dice rolls for every side.
- Resource economy — collect and trade Resource Tokens to fund Attack, Speed, Life, and Wall upgrades.
- Play your way — go human vs. human, human vs. AI, or watch AI Heroes battle it out on their own.
Currently in active development and internal playtesting — a release date will follow.
Why We’re Doing This
Bringing a board game online isn’t just a matter of putting tiles on a screen — every rule, every roll, every edge case has to be rebuilt so it holds up without a person at the table to make the judgment call. Getting Balance of Power: Elements to the point where it’s genuinely playable — start to finish, human or AI, no house rules needed — has taken real work, and we’re proud of how far it’s come.
There’s more to do before it’s ready for everyone, but the core game is alive, playable, and already producing some great matches internally. We’ll be sharing more as we get closer to launch.
Stay tuned — and get ready to bring the balance of power online.
